WHAT IS HOME CARE?

 

Home Care helps individuals remain in the familiar environment of their own home by providing health services or assistance with activities of daily living.

WHO CAN WORK ON THE SENIOR'S/HOME CARE TEAM?

Employment opportunities exist for several categories of health care staff:

Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses

  • Provide a range of nursing services.
  • May work in a variety of specialized areas.
  • Require current CRNM/CLPNM registration.

Home Care Attendants

  • Provide personal care services such as bathing, transferring, feeding and toileting assistance.
  • Provide some light housekeeping, meal preparation, laundry and client supervision.
  • Require a Home Care Attendant/Health Care Aide certificate from an educational institution recognized by the RHA or equivalent combinatin of training and experience.

Home Support Workers

  • Provide client supervision, meal preparation, light housekeeping and laundry services.
  • Require experience in the areas of light housekeeping, laundry care and meal preparation.

Mental Health Proctors

  •  Escorting clients to health related appointments.
  • Assisting clients with shopping.
  • Escorting and supporting clients in attending community resources of interest.
  • Assisting client in completing various types of forms.
  • Providing feedback to Community Mental Health Case Managers.

WHAT DOES THE SENIOR'S/HOME CARE PROGRAM EXPECT FROM YOU?

  • Commitment to be available for regularly scheduled assignments (may include days, evenings, nights and rotating weekends)
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to function as a team member
  • Ability to work independently in a community setting
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality

All applicants are subject to a criminal record check/child abuse registry check.  A valid driver's license and use of a vehicle is an asset.
