Moose Lake/Mosakahiken Cree Nation are two closely related but independent communities located on the northern limits of the Saskatchewan River Delta, on the western shore of Cedar Lake. Moose Lake/ Mosakahiken Cree Nation is a remote community, which is, situated approximately 100 kilometers southeast of The Pas. Moose Lake/ Mosakahiken Cree Nation is accessible by gravel road, which is approximately 64 kilometers from the nearest highway, PTH# 287. Moose Lake/Mosakahiken Cree Nation relies on The Pas for many of its services.
The community of Moose Lake is an Aboriginal and Northern Affairs community of 212 (Province of Manitoba, Community Profile 2003) situated on provincial crown land. An elected mayor and council under “The Northern Affairs Act” have represented Moose Lake since 1971.
Mosakahiken Cree Nation a community of 740 (Statistics Canada, 2001 Census) comprises the adjoining Reserve 31A, Big Island, Trader’s Lake, Crossing Bay and Little Limestone.
