PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

The purpose of our program is to directly intervene in the addictive process.  Clients can expect the following through a very intensive schedule:

— group therapy

— individual counselling

— lectures and films

— 12-Step study groups

— co-dependency/anger management studies

— reading/writing assignments

— assigned daily duties

Clients are admitted as beds become available.  The length of stay depends on the individual's progress, with the average being 28 days (four weeks).

Here are some discovery choices that will be available to you:

— Many people have healed from addiction.  Recovery is possible and there are supports available to help you on your journey.

—  There is no perfect path to recovery, only the path you choose one day at a time.

—  Change takes time and is made of many small steps.  You must learn to be gentle with yourself.

—  You can choose to let go of your problems with the help of a supportive program that will show you the way.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

There are four main objectives to the program:

Commitment

You will learn about addiction so that you can make an informed choice about where you are at.  We give you the information - you make the decision about what you might want to change.

Self-Awareness

You will learn about those feelings or emotional factors that lead to an addicted lifestyle or that stand as barriers to recovery, eg. anger/stress management, assertiveness/communication skills.

Relationships

You will look at problems people have with relationship issues and see how your relationships have either supported you or made things harder.  For example, loneliness can lead to addictive behaviours.

New Lifestyle Choices

You will be helped to develop a fuller, healthier lifestyle for the future.  Community link-ups and solid aftercare supports are essential to help you work through the challenges of the future.

WHAT IS ADDICTION?

Addiction is a "dependence on any substance or process that has attained such a degree as to disrupt academic or work performance, to interfere with family and interpersonal relationships, to disrupt social and economic functioning and/or to impair the state of physical and/or mental health."

We can be addicted to a SUBSTANCE (eg. alcohol, marijuana, LSD, uppers, downers, cocaine, nicotine, caffeine, food) and/or to a PROCESS (eg. work, sex, money, gambling, religion, relationships).

Addictions are strong, irresistible urges to use a substance or take part in an activity that we later feel we must lie to ourselves and others about.

If there is something you are not willing to give up in order to make your life fuller and healthier — and others are complaining about — there may be an addiction at work.
