SHERRIDON /
COLD LAKE

Sherridon/Cold Lake is located on Kississing Lake, north of the 54th parallel. The two communities are located on the Pukatawagan rail line (recently purchased from Omni Trax Ltd.) to Lynn Lake approximately 156 kilometers north of The Pas. A 78-kilometer gravel access road was constructed in 1985 making this community road accessible. The community is now connected to PTH# 10 between Cranberry Portage and Flin Flon, which the community relies on for many of its services. Sherridon is also accessible by rail. Pukatawagan First Nations is 72 kilometers north of Sherridon/Cold Lake.

Sherridon/Cold Lake is a Metis community of 113 (Province of Manitoba, Community Profile, 2003) which covers an area of 4 square kilometers. Cold Lake is built around Kississing Lake, and is where most of the people in the community reside. Sherridon originated as the service center for the Sherritt-Gordon Mines, from which Sherridon received its name. It is located approximately one mile away from Cold Lake. Sherridon is a Northern Affairs community and is governed by a Mayor and Council.

The Sherritt-Gordon Mine closed in 1940, resulting in the relocation of many families to the community of Lynn Lake. There have been various mines that have been operated since then and active exploration has been in progress. Sherridon prides itself on the natural beauty of its community. The area is rich in wildlife and plants, and has many beautiful and well-stocked lakes.
